Editorial Standards

Vanity & Vice exists to document the collision of wealth, influence, and human error. We operate under a simple philosophy: Money lies, but the receipt always tells the truth.

We are not here to act as a moral arbiter. We are here to be the most accurate, cynical, and sophisticated observer in the room. Our loyalty is to the reader and the reality of the story, regardless of whose reputation is on the line.

Verification & Fact-Checking

In an era of digital noise, accuracy is the ultimate luxury.

  • The Process: Every claim, statistic, and quote is subject to rigorous verification. We cross-reference public records, financial filings, and court documents.
  • The Standard: We do not publish rumors unless they are substantiated by credible evidence or multiple independent sources. If a story is developing and details are unconfirmed, we will explicitly state so.
  • The AI Policy: While we utilize advanced technology for research and data synthesis, every word published on Vanity & Vice is reviewed, edited, and approved by human editors. We do not publish raw AI-generated content.

Sourcing & Anonymity

Our access is our currency. We frequently rely on “insider” sources—those within the camps, the boardrooms, and the VIP sections who cannot speak on the record.

  • Anonymous Sources: We grant anonymity only when necessary to protect a source who is providing vital information. We do not allow anonymity for personal attacks.
  • Vetting: Even if a source is unnamed in print, their identity is known to and vetted by our senior editorial staff. We do not accept blind tips without verification.

Corrections Policy

We strive for perfection, but we are documenting a chaotic world. If we make a mistake, we own it.

  • Transparency: When an error is confirmed, we will correct the article immediately and append a “Correction” note at the bottom of the piece detailing what was changed and when.
  • Retractions: In the rare event that a story is found to be fundamentally flawed, we will retract it with a full explanation. We do not “stealth edit” or delete errors to hide them.

Independence & Advertising

Vanity & Vice is a business, but our editorial voice is not for sale.

  • Separation of Church and State: Our editorial team operates independently of our advertising team. Advertisers, sponsors, and affiliate partners have no say in our editorial calendar, the tone of our coverage, or the outcome of our reviews.
  • Affiliate Transparency: We often review products, casinos, or services. If we use an affiliate link where we earn a commission, it is clearly disclosed. This financial relationship never influences the verdict of the review. If a product is bad, we will say it is bad—expensively bad.

Conflict of Interest

Our writers and editors are required to disclose any financial or personal conflicts of interest related to the subjects they cover. If a conflict exists, the writer is recused from the story, or the conflict is publicly disclosed in the article.
